Women from Brazil Strengthen Humanitarian Cooperation in Mozambique

Faith, service, and cross-cultural cooperation bring Expansion Director Eliana Santos and Brazilian women together on a 15-day journey across different regions of Mozambique

Humanitarian cooperation between Brazil and Africa is also built through meaningful encounters, listening, service, and a willingness to work together. Guided by this spirit, Jethro Diplomacia’s Director of Expansion and Humanitarian Cooperation for Brazil–Africa, Nurse and Cross-Cultural Missionary Eliana Santos, welcomed three Brazilian women on a humanitarian visit to Mozambique: Pr. Andrea Quintiliano, Missionary Rita, and Missionary Silvana Gomes.

Coming from different ministries and backgrounds in Christian service in Brazil, the three women decided to join forces and dedicate 15 days to evangelistic, social, and humanitarian activities in Mozambique.

Already established in the country and working to build bridges of cooperation between Brazil and Africa, Eliana Santos welcomed the group. She also helped organize schedules, identify locations, and coordinate activities throughout the team’s stay in Mozambique.

The journey took them to different regions, including Chimoio, Manhiça, Matola, and Maputo, bringing together worship services, evangelism, care, solidarity, and support for communities and institutions engaged in social work.

Three Stories, One Shared Purpose

Pr. Andrea Quintiliano, who is married and has three children, is a member of Igreja Avivada na Fé in the Grajaú area of São Paulo. She founded Missão Amar em Cristo, a nonprofit organization that works with women facing vulnerable circumstances. Through this organization, she shares the Christian message and promotes initiatives focused on women’s dignity, independence, and empowerment.

Missionary Rita de Cássia Soares, who is married and a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church, has dedicated approximately 30 years to Christian service. She serves as a local correspondent for Open Doors, contributing to awareness and evangelistic initiatives related to the challenges faced by the persecuted Church.

Missionary Silvana Gomes, who is married and has two children, leads a ministry primarily dedicated to children. She founded Ministério Tropa de Jesus Cristo, through which she presents the Christian message in engaging and creative ways. Her activities include theater, puppet shows, arts and crafts workshops, and other educational experiences.

Their journeys are different, but Mozambique offered them an opportunity to serve together.

Solidarity Reaching Children and Adolescents

Among the activities carried out was a visit to a residential care institution supported and accompanied by Expansion Director Eliana Santos. The institution provides a home for 109 children and adolescents.

It serves children and adolescents facing vulnerable circumstances, including orphanhood and HIV-related challenges. To protect their dignity, privacy, and well-being, individual information about medical diagnoses or health conditions is not disclosed.

During the visit, the group spent time with the children and adolescents, shared the Christian message, and identified some of the institution’s practical needs.

In response, the delegation donated 250 kilograms of rice, helping provide meals for the children and adolescents in its care.

The group also provided financial support for improvements to the institution’s sewage system, addressing an important need caused by seasonal rainfall and flooding.

Another joyful moment was the donation of a 55-inch television, intended for a new television and recreation room.

The initiative aimed to go beyond material assistance. Its purpose was to help create a space where children and adolescents could socialize, learn, develop their creativity, and enjoy recreational activities together.

The institution also stands out for the artistic talents of its residents. Children and adolescents create paintings, sculptures, artwork, and other forms of creative expression, demonstrating that even in challenging circumstances, their abilities, aspirations, and potential deserve recognition and encouragement.

In Baixa, an Initiative Supporting Women

Another meaningful moment of the journey took place in an area known as Baixa, in Maputo. There, the team carried out activities with women facing vulnerable circumstances associated with exploitation and sex work.

The delegation provided a meal and, equally importantly, dedicated time to listening, conversation, and sharing the Christian message.

The initiative also included guidance on women’s health, seeking to expand access to information and preventive care. In addition, the women were introduced to a vocational training opportunity through the Dorcas de Fé & Fio Project – Sewing Independence.

The project is coordinated by Eliana Santos and Juscelina Libombo, both Humanitarian Civil Diplomats and members of iCEMI – Missionary Evangelization Center, an institution led by Apostle Daniel Barwani, who also serves as an Expansion Director.

The initiative provides training in cutting and sewing as a means of promoting social inclusion, income generation, and women’s economic independence. It also seeks to strengthen families, help women rebuild their lives, and create new opportunities for personal and economic development.

How to Support the Humanitarian Project

The project welcomes support from individuals, institutions, and partners committed to promoting human dignity, women’s independence, and social transformation in Mozambique.

Those wishing to contribute to this humanitarian initiative may provide financial assistance or donate materials and resources to support vocational training and income-generating activities.

Every contribution offers an opportunity to expand the project’s reach and strengthen its impact on women and families facing vulnerable circumstances.

Cooperation Across Borders

The visit of Pastor Andreia, Missionary Rita, and Missionary Silvana to Mozambique represents a tangible expression of cooperation among individuals, ministries, and institutions that understand mission work as an act of service.

Over 15 days, the delegation reached different communities through worship services, evangelism, children’s activities, social initiatives, donations, and opportunities for fellowship.

For Jethro Diplomacia, initiatives such as this demonstrate that humanitarian cooperation can emerge from different backgrounds and bring people together around shared values: human dignity, solidarity, faith, education, care, and service.

As Director of Expansion and Humanitarian Cooperation for Brazil–Africa, Eliana Santos has worked to strengthen these connections between Brazil and Africa. Her efforts focus on bringing people and projects together to support local communities and institutions responsibly.

These women did more than cross a geographical border. They crossed cultural boundaries to listen, learn, serve, and share.

Gratitude for Humanitarian Cooperation

On behalf of Jethro Diplomacia, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Andreia, Missionary Rita, and Missionary Silvana for dedicating their time, resources, talents, and ministries to serving communities in Mozambique.

On behalf of Eliana Santos, Director of Expansion and Humanitarian Cooperation for Brazil–Africa, and everyone who benefited from these initiatives, we express our sincere appreciation.

May this experience further strengthen the bonds of cooperation between Brazil and Mozambique, opening new pathways for projects that promote dignity, vocational training, care, education, faith, and hope.

Mozambique thanks you.

Our doors remain open. You are always welcome to return.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
