Civil Diplomats and Doctors Palmira Francisco and Catarina Muianga Lead Health Action in Nhassaua Village
Civil Diplomats and the Healthcare outreach in a remote Mozambican community
Between 27 and 29 November 2025, Civil Humanitarian Diplomats and medical doctors Palmira Francisco and Catarina Muianga carried out a humanitarian health action in Nhassaua Village, located in the Marromeu District, Sofala, Mozambique.
The initiative responded to an urgent call from the Kuzuala Africa Project, coordinated by missionary Vanessa Castelion, which supports communities with limited access to healthcare.
A Community Facing Structural Health Barriers
Nhassaua is a remote area marked by the absence of nearby health units. Residents often travel long distances to receive basic medical care.
At the same time, scarce resources limit responses to preventable diseases and socio-economic challenges. Therefore, the need for direct medical presence is constant and pressing.
Coordinated Medical and Humanitarian Action
To help mitigate this reality, Palmira Francisco and Catarina Muianga joined a multidisciplinary team of volunteer doctors and health professionals.
Together, they delivered essential services focused on dignity and prevention.
The action included:
- Medical consultations and distribution of medication
- Minor clinical treatments and referrals for serious cases
- Health education talks and preventive guidance
- Psychosocial support for vulnerable families
- Donations of clothing, footwear, medicines, and Bibles for community outreach
Moreover, the team adopted a sensitive and welcoming approach, tailored to the local context. As a result, trust and engagement from the community were immediate.
Health Professionals and Partner Organizations
The initiative counted on the participation of several professionals, including doctors and nurses affiliated with the Champions for Life Foundation and other partner institutions.
Key partners included:
- Light for the World
- Champions for Life
- Young Life
- Wolfe and Thiele Medical Center
- Positive Discipline Mozambique
- Farmácias Maria Elisa
- Eurofarma
Institutional support was also provided by provincial and district health authorities, as well as local administration leaders in Marromeu.
Voices from the Field
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Palmira Francisco shared a deeply personal note:
“I returned with a tight heart and a strong desire to do more.
Faced with so much hardship, I dream of an orphanage or a social clinic.
Something that truly benefits those who have nothing beyond life itself.”
Her words echo the spirit of Civil Humanitarian Diplomacy. Action is guided by proximity, empathy, and responsibility.
Volunteer Doctors África – an Open Call for Participation
The team remains open to collaboration.
Health professionals, volunteers, and citizens willing to contribute are invited to participate in future missions or support them financially.
Through initiatives like this, Jethro International continues to strengthen Civil Humanitarian Diplomacy in Africa, where citizens with skills and commitment step forward to meet urgent human needs with concrete action.
